A MOROCCAN MOSAIC

Zellige or Zellij is an enameled terra cotta created by artisans in the vicinity of Fez, France using the specific structure of the local earth.

The technique is a sort of traditional Moroccan mosaic: the segments are cut from squares 10x10 cm. then assembled to create floral, geometric, or calligraphic motifs or a combination of these in the pure tradition of Maghreb (North African) art.
